Jim Kross has lived in the Antelope Valley for over 40 years. For the vast majority of those years he's attended and served at Valley Bible Church. His responsibilities as a church elder include overseeing the Worship Teams and Men's Ministries as well as assisting with the church administration efforts. Over the years he has been a deacon and leader in the high school, Awana, music and growth group ministries.
Jim retired in 2011 from the Los Angeles County Fire Department where he last served as an Assistant Chief here in the Antelope Valley. Prior to moving to Lancaster in 1972, he lived in San Diego and Santa Maria. He came to know Christ at the age of 16 after a friend invited him to a "youth night" party. Jim says growing up in a home effected by alcoholism prepared him to see his own sin and respond to the Gospel. Personal study of the Bible and the discipleship of older, stronger Christian men prepared him for his ministries at VBC.
"The only thing I would share with others is my keen awareness of my weaknesses and shortcomings and, in spite of these, how blessed I am to be enjoying the life the Lord has given me," Jim says. "I feel privileged to share in His work with those I serve and serve with at Valley." Jim still resides in Lancaster with Debbie, his wife of 42 years. He has two sons, both married, and five grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys road cycling and leather work.
